Brief History
This top of the range “Station Wagon” is (as far as we know?) the only one in the UK of this particular model. The ‘Marquis’ is the same as ‘Ghia’ in Ford terms. A joint venture between Lincoln & Mercury at the time using all Ford running gear.
-
This time warp ‘original’ wagon was last used in America in 1999 and has been dry stored until I imported it 6 years ago.
-
The Lady who bought it new (Carolyn Gaunt) worked and lived in Fresno California. Her college pass is still in the window, she first drove the new wagon on 14/05/1970.
-
The yellow CHP inspection sticker on the outside of the windshield has been there since June 1974.
-
Other than normal service work, the stone chips across the front panel and lots and lots of cleaning this wagon is all original!
-
The interior is a heavy grade vinyl (of course) wasn’t everything vinyl in the 70’s?
-
The ‘wood effect paneling’ is a quality vinyl wrap (of course), and is called “Rich Yacht Decking”
-
Mrs. Gaunt optioned the split front seats; the drivers seat is electrically operated.
The original spare tyre is still in the vehicle, it’s a cross ply and is still full of 1970’s California air!
NB: Currently there is no import tax on any vehicle over 30 years old from the USA. 5% VAT is all you pay, plus shipping costs of course.
Use www.hillshipping.com as they are the most experienced and as you can see the wagon arrived as it left.
